Fellaini: I Don’t Play Dirty

United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has stated he is not a dirty player at all.

The Belgium international responded to criticism related to two elbowing incidents in both legs of the Europa league match against Liverpool.

Fellaini elbowed Emre Can in the first leg, before getting yellow carded for elbowing Dejan Lovren in the return leg.

However, Fellaini said he “never wants to injure a player”.

“I am not like that,” Fellaini told BBC Sport. “If you want to win the game, you have to be aggressive.

“I don’t want to elbow someone, I just defend myself. I am physical.

“I like to win my challenge. That’s English football as well, but I am not a dirty player.”

 

Pellegrini: Van Gaal Is In A Difficult Situation

 

Manuel Pellegrini does not feel Van Gaal is affected by the difficult situation he is in.

There have been growing calls for Van Gaal to be sacked, following United’s Europa league elimination at the hands of Liverpool.

The Dutchman had previously cited the affect of negative reports on his friends and family, but Pellegrini says managers at top clubs should expect to be criticised for bad results.

“I think that Louis van Gaal has a lot of experience,” the City boss told reporters. 

“When you are managing big teams, you are expecting to receive criticism if you do not win. He has the experience to manage that situation.

“I always… when you are in a bad moment you want to support him but I don’t think he has any problems with the experience he has of managing the big teams in his career.

 Maybe he is not in a good moment but he knows how to manage.”

Wenger: We Knew Winning Was Important

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says his men were aware of how important it was to win against Everton. 

The gunners recorded a 2-0 win over Everton and are eight points behind Leicester City, with the win crucial in their title chase.

“We knew that if we didn’t win we were out of it,” he admitted. “In England it is very difficult to give a balance of the performance. When you lose, it is disastrous but we were not so bad.

“We had our backs to the wall and responded well. I am pleased that mentally we responded under pressure.

“I am not masochistic enough to consider us out of it. Mathematically we have a chance and a game in hand at home. We are not the flavour of the week but if we don’t believe no-one will do it for us.

“We have to be humble and fight in every game like today. Then we never know. We need some performances and some [other sides to drop points].”
