ASUU Talks Tough Over Single Treasury Account

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has condemned the federal government orientated policy of single treasury account (STA), describing it as detrimental to the growth of the university system.
This disclosure was made known by the ASUU president, comrade Nasir Isa, at the end of the National Executive Council meeting held at the Imo State University, Owerri.
According to him, the union would also resist any measure that emasculates university operations or robs the system of its autonomy.
Commending steps put in place by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to promote transparency and accountability in public institutions including Nigerian universities, the ASUU boss however reiterated that it would resist retrogressive policies capable of robbing the university system of its autonomy.
He said all over the world universities control their finances for the purposes of short, medium and long-term planning.
