Standup9ja: NSCDC parades 3 over vandalism of
electricity transformers in Abuja
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
has paraded three suspects over the vandalism of electricity transformers in
Kwali and Dei Dei areas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
One of them, Ibrahim Saleh, 22 said he is a scavenger
who saw the vandalised materials around MOPOL barracks in Dei Dei and tried to
cart them away. NSCDC said he was caught with vandalised transformer covers and
had a cable cutter.
NSCDC said the other, Mohammed Tanko also 22 from
Katsina State was caught vandalising the transformer powering Koroko village in
Kwali Area Council. He was caught in the act with armoured cables, cutter,
plier and hacksaws.
The third suspect, Babangida Abdullahi aged 30 and
from the same state said he did not vandalise the power equipment but was
arrested on the grounds that he sold the materials.
NSCDC claimed he is the syndicate leader receiving
vandalised materials within Kwali area for onward sales.
The Commandant, FCT Commmand, Mr. Patrick Ukpan while
briefing newsmen Tuesday said the suspects were monitored and caught in the
act.
He said, “We are parading them before the public and
their cohorts because we know that collaborators in this criminal activities so
that they will know that they do not have a hiding place because our men are on
alert and on surveillance.”
Ukpan said the suspects will be charged to court for
prosecution after investigation is concluded on them.
