Standup9ja: JAMB denies deducting marks over cheating
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)
yesterday said it hasn’t deducted marks of Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination (UTME) candidates over allegation of involvement in cheating in
some centers.
Rather, it said it would identify those involved and mete
out the appropriate punishment to them.
The head of the board’s information unit, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said in a
statement that candidates should disregard any information being circulated on
the deduction of marks by the board.
He said: “It is no longer news that all our centres have
CCTV cameras and we have watched all proceedings at the CBT centres across the
nation and those involved in any infraction will be sanctioned in accordance
with the provisions of the Examination Malpractices Act. The board has not
deducted any marks from any candidate
and is not contemplating doing that as
it is not a condition for sanction in any of the provisions of the law against
malpractices.”
He said candidates should be mindful of scammers who would
send misleading information to create panic to take advantage of the situation
to defraud candidates.
He said the board had also noted that some candidates who
could not check their results were being told that their results were not out
because they owed JAMB some money. “This is a lie and candidates are advised
not to pay any money to anybody as their results are sent to their mails and
also on our website: www.jamb.org.ng. Candidates are to log in with their registration
number or email address to print,” he said.
The board will conclude the 2017 examination Saturday with
19,950 candidates. So far, of 1,698,835 candidates have taken the examinations.
