Standup9ja: Abuja airport runway completed, to be certified
by NCAA - FAAN
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja runway is
now completed and currently being inspected by the Nigerian Civil Aviation
Authority (NCAA), it has been revealed.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Federal
Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Engr. Saleh Dunoma said the authority had
given NCAA two days (Sunday and Monday) to inspect it and probably make some
observations which would be corrected before the airport reopens on April 19.
Daily Trust reports that the rehabilitation of the runway
finally came to an end with the completion of installation of airfield lighting
by weekend.
Dunoma who inspected the final lap of work in a statement
said, "We will be ready by Monday the April 17 but we are leaving the
remaining two days for Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), because they have to certify the airport that
what we have done is in accordance with their standards.”
He added, “If they do that, we will bring in the traffic.
But if they do not, we have the opportunity of making corrections with the two
days we have saved".
He assured that the reopening of the airport by April 19 as
promised by the federal government is certain.
