Standup9ja - Fayose, others mull new party
Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and a member of the
House of Representatives, Ladi Adebutu Kessington, from Ogun State, have given
an indication that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the
Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee may form a new political party in
the event the National Chairman of the party, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, wins at
the Supreme Court.
Speaking on Monday during a meeting of leaders of South West
PDP loyal to Makarfi, some of the stalwarts said the outcome of the Supreme
Court judgement would mean a lot.
Fayose, who was the chief host, said he would never be
comfortable with some people in the PDP.
He said: “They said we should settle our problems through
political means. Let me say here that there are some people in the PDP I can’t
be in the same party with. They are too dirty and people like us can’t
associate with them. I, Ayo Fayose stand with Makarfi.”
Also speaking with journalists during the meeting,
Kessington said the party was expecting the outcome of its case at the apex
court before taking the next step.
He lamented the crisis rocking the party, saying their
meeting did not amount to contempt of court, insisting that they were
exercising their right to association.
He added: “The appeal is still pending at the Supreme Court
and we are waiting for the outcome. We that believe in Ahmed Makarfi have the
right to convene any meeting despite the Appeal Court ruling which validated Sheriff’s
faction.
“In the judgement, there was nowhere it was stated that any
of us here was pronounced as not a member of the PDP; we are still bonafide
members.
“But let me tell you, people of like minds within the party
will surely come together to decide their political fates if Sheriff wins the
appeal.”
