Plateau State government says it is able to save N68 million monthly following the removal of 478 employees from its salary payroll while 101 others who had stayed in service beyond their terminal dates have been ordered to make a combined refund of over N70 million to the state coffers.
State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Malam Nazifi Ahmad alongside other Commissioners in the state stated this during a monthly press briefing yesterday.
Ahmad said the state was not only able to save money due to the measures put in place but was able to identify ghost workers whose discovery was made following a BVN matching service for all state employees and pensioners.
He said some of the various offences committed by the former employees included improper documentation, underage employment and improper placements, adding, “We even had cases where an employee within 10 years of employment became a senior staff and other issues where some employees don’t even exist.”
