Several Northerners Go Into Hiding, Others Depart Onitsha During Bloody Pro-Biafra Protests (Photos)


 Members of the Hausa community –Northerners – residing in Onitsha area of Anambra were reported to have gone into hiding in the wake of the violent pro-Biafra protest in the area which claimed eleven lives.

According to The Punch, the Northerners – baristas, shoe menders, green grocers, barbecue sellers and allied workers – who fled the town following the two-day pro-Biafran agitation fracas are yet to be seen in public.
It was learnt that they did not open shops on Saturday, December 5, 2015.
Bear in mind, during the Biafran agitation mayhem, the Onitsha central mosque, a nomadic school and many other properties belonging to the Hausa community were destroyed.

More findings say most of them were seeking refuge in the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police barracks in the area, apparently for fear of attacks.
“After the crisis, most of them only came out in the night to do brisk businesses and disappear again,” a resident of the area said.
Meanwhile, Daily Post reports has it that as at Friday morning, December 4, Northerners were sighted departing Onisha and Asaba.
