Back In Contention: Arsenal Beat Bayern Munich 2-0
Arsenal were perceived as down and out after two games in the UEFA champions league. Goals from Ozil and Giroud however helped the Gunners secure their first points in the Champions league this season and could be the goals that spark a resurgence for Arsenal.
Bayern Munich came into the game looking
like sure-fire winners and controlled the game as such. Bayern Munich
controlled the midfield and forced Arsenal to sit back as Guardiola’s
men played with a lot of swagger at a very slow pace. A good interplay
allowed Thiago to test Cech in the 18th minute but the
Arsenal shot stopper was equal to the task. The best chance of the half
fell to Walcott whose header from three yards was kept out by Manuel
Neuer. Bayern Munich continued to dominate the game in the second half
but Arsenal grew into the match and in the 77th minute,
Arsene Wenger’s men took the lead as Neuer completely misjudged the
flight of a free kick allowing Giroud to nod the ball into an empty net.
Bayern struggled to find an equalizer and Cech made another brilliant
save to deny Lewandowski. In the 91st minute, Bellerin began a
nice counter that culminated in Ozil knocking the ball in from point
blank range. Neuer got to the shot but it had already crossed the line.
