Standup9ja: Confederations Cup final 2017: Germany beat
Chile 1-0
Germany ahead Despite Chile’s domination in first half
Chile vs Germany, Confederations Cup final 2017
First time that the Chile and Germany have reached the
finals in the tournament.
Germany take on Chile in the final of the FIFA
Confederations Cup on Sunday evening.
Germany’s new generation confirmed their status as a future
force to be reckoned with by beating a seasoned Chile 1-0 to win the
Confederations Cup final in Russia on Sunday.
Both Chile and Germany have never won the Confederations
Cup. As a matter of fact, this is the first time the two sides have reached the
final of the tournament. The Confederations Cup is often a tournament that
flies under the radar, understandably so, as it precedes one of the most
followed sports events in the world (re: FIFA World Cup).
It is the second time that the two sides have met in this
summer’s competition, having shared the spoils in a 1-1 group stage draw.
But there is much more on the line this time around – as the
two play it out for the trophy.
Germany are the favourites to come out on top but Alexis
Sanchez will be hoping that he can inspire La Roja to their third tournament
win in as many years.
Chile, who won the Copa America in 2015 and 2016, reached
the final with a penalty shootout win over Portugal last week.
Germany, meanwhile, thrashed Mexico 4-1 to book their place
in the final, with Leon Goretzka scoring twice.
Stick with us through the evening for all of the action and
reaction from Saint Petersburg.
Germany starting XI: ter Stegen; Mustafi, Ginter, Rudiger;
Kimmich, Rudy, Goretzka, Hector; Draxler, Werner, Stindl
Chile starting XI: Bravo; Isla, Jara, Medel, Beausejour;
