Standup9ja: 37 Killed As Gunmen Attack Kaduna Community
No less than 37 people were reported to have died on Tuesday
in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna state after a raid by gunmen.
The tragedy is coming barely three days after four herdsmen
were said to have been killed by gunmen in the same area.
Standup9ja reports that the fresh round of violence, which
erupted between farmers and herders, left scores of persons injured in Kajuru –
about 50 kilometres from Kaduna, the state capital.
Speaking on the incident, an eyewitness disclosed that
trouble started when some Fulani youths stormed Ungwan Uka village to avenge
the death of a certain herdsman allegedly killed by some village youths at a
farm in the area.
Also confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in
Kaduna State, Mr Agyole Abeh, said that policemen and soldiers have been
deployed to the troubled area to ensure peace returns to the community.
A few days back, the National Secretary of Miyetti Allah
Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Abdullahi Ibrahim, had attributed the
cause of the previous attack – which left four herdsmen dead – to the abduction
of two Fulani indigenes in the area.
Mr Ibrahim added that the gunmen had also attacked Tsonho
Damishi community in Chikun Local Government Area of the state where they
destroyed houses.
The Miyetti leader further described the attacks as
unwarranted and provoking, appealing to members of the association to remain
calm while calling on security agencies to bring the killers to justice.
