Standup9ja: Zaki-Biam: Taskforce recovers weapons from notorious
suspect’s stronghold
A Special Security Joint Task Force instituted by the
Federal Government over the recent market killings in Zaki-Biam town in Ukum
Local Government Area of Benue State yesterday displayed arms and ammunition it
allegedly recovered from the stronghold of most wanted criminal, Terwase Akwaza,
popularly known as Ghana.
Governor Samuel Ortom has fingered Ghana as responsible for
the market killings penultimate Monday in Zaki Biam after security agencies
corroborated the governor at separate times that the wanted militia kingpin who
reneged on the amnesty deal earlier granted him by the state government
continued to wreak havoc in some areas of the state.
The Joint Security Task Force headed by a Commissioner of
Police from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, CP, Bello Ahmed, has however recorded
some level of breakthrough with the weapons so far recovered.
Special Adviser to the State Government on Security Matters,
Col. Edwin Jando (retired) who spoke at the Government House while displaying
the recovered weapons, said the security operatives raided a bunker belonging
to Ghana at his home town of Gbishe in Katsina-Ala local government area,
adding that several persons had been arrested and taken to Abuja in connection
with the development while interrogation was on.
Jando named the items recovered from the bunker to consist
of a submachine gun, three grenades, automatic rifles, 10 locally made pistols,
many locally made guns, thousands of live ammunition for rifles and double
barrel guns, many cartridges, rockets for firing planes and so on.
On his part, the CP Ahmed Bello assured Benue people that
the days of the dreaded criminal were
numbered.
Responding, Governor Ortom, who applauded the security
agencies for a job well done, accused the runaway gang leader of using the
amnesty programme as a cover-up for criminal activities.
