Standup9ja - Police killing: Jos community gets new DPO
The Plateau State Police Command has posted a new Divisional
Police Officer (DPO) to Anguwan Rogo community in Jos-North, where one person
was allegedly shot dead on Wednesday by a police officer.
The Police/Community Relations Committee Chairman of Anguwan
Rogo, Umar Alfa, told our correspondent that the posting of a new DPO will
douse tension and urged the police to assist in the payment of medical bills of
those hospitalised from Wednesday’s shooting.
Also speaking, the House of Assembly member representing Jos
North-North, Ibrahim Baba Hassan, said he would do everything legally possible
to ensure that the police officer who allegedly shot at a crowd of youths was
brought to book.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tyopev Terna,
confirmed the positing of a new DPO, saying, “where life is involved, we have
to take drastic measures to douse tension. However, we have taken hold of the
situation and we are investigating everything.”
A community leader in Anguwan Rogo, Maikano Abubakar, told
Daily Trust on Sunday that contrary to reports making round, the youths who had
an altercation with the police while conveying a corpse were not from Anguwan
Rogo and stressed that the boy killed by the police had only gone there to
settle the misunderstanding.
