EFCC Arrests Iyiola Omisore Over N1.3bn Ekiti Election Loot

EFCC Arrests Iyiola Omisore Over N1.3bn Ekiti Election Loot

Detectives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, after months of intense investigations.
Omisore, who was a former senator, was arrested on Sunday morning in Abuja, and has since been in the custody of the anti-graft agency facing interrogation for his role in the election funding fraud in Ekiti state.
It was gathered that a firm linked to the ex senator received a sum of N1.3 billion from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki to fund and rig Governor Ayodele Fayose into office in 2014.
Mr. Dasuki is currently being prosecuted for allegedly mismanaging about $2.1 billion meant for purchase of arms for the military.
The anti graft outfit had on 24 May 2016 obtained a court warrant to arrest Omisore, who had failed to honour an EFCC invitation. The EFCC consequently declared Omisore wanted shortly after obtaining the court warrant.
Speaking on the matter, the spokesman of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren had stated that Omisore was wanted in connection with a case of receiving and misappropriating the sum of over N700 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser, between June and November, 2014.
He stated that Omisore was being elusive and refused to report to the Commission after invitation was extended to him on April 7, 2016 requesting him “to come and make clarification on the ongoing investigation”.
