ASUU UNIJOS explains strike action
The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has explained the reasons behind its “total, comprehensive and indefinite” strike action, which began on Thursday.READ: ASUU Talks Tough Over Single Treasury AccountPiwune told the press that “the trouble started shortly after the six-month ASUU nation-wide strike in June 2013; the federal government released money for staff’s welfare and NEEDS assessment, but this money was misappropriated by the university.”
Piwune said over 300 members of staff were not paid, with the school also reneging on postgraduate entitlements owed to some of the staff.
Piwune also complained about the salary gulf between UNIJOS lecturers and lecturers of other Federal Universities, saying the school’s management was also fond of complaining that there was no money.
