The wife of the president, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has said that her husband's health condition is not as bad as being perceived.

Mrs Buhari stated this Tuesday evening in her Twitter handle, @aishambuhari.

According to her, the president continues to discharge his responsibilities.

This is the first time she will be making comments on her husband's health since he returned from medical vacation in the United Kingdom on March 10.

Mrs Buhari thanked all Nigerians for their concern, love and prayers over her husband's health status.

She stated: "I thank all Nigerians for their concern, love and prayers over my husband's health status.

" I wish to inform everyone that his health is not as bad as it is being perceived. Meanwhile, he continues to carry out his responsibilities during this period.

"As it may come to your notice, he is meeting with the Minister of Justice and the GMD of the NNPC is evening.

" Long live Nigerians. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

The president had not been seen in public in recent times. Within last month, he was absent twice at the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Amidst fresh speculations about Buhari's health status, his handlers had told the nation that he was acting slowly on doctors' advice.

A Lagos based lawyer and activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa on Tuesday urged the Nigerian Senate to declare the office of President Muhammadu Buhari vacant and constitute a medical panel of experts to examine the health status of the President in order to determine if he can still continue to function in office.

Adegboruwa in a statement to newsmen explained that since he got to know about the president ill health, he had changed his views concerning his government, saying “We are all human after all, and no one can play God or rejoice over another man on account of his ill health.”

The lawyer argued that on the account of the president’s ill health, he had not been performing his official duties.

“Even though the President is human, the Constitution anticipates a fit and proper chief executive, to be in charge of and run the affairs of Nigeria, which Buhari cannot presently fulfill,” Adegboruwa said.

According to him, the option before Nigeria presently is for the Senate to declare the office of the Preside vacant, adding that in the meantime, the Vice-President should be sworn in as Acting President.

He faulted the position of some activists who called on the president to go on medical vacation, saying that cannot be an option for the country.
